Sacchar: prefix for variations of, or words related to, the word sugar; used mostly for biological terms. It stems from the latin word saccharum. The English word sugar originates from the Persian word shakar, itself derived from the Sanskrit word sharkara. It came to English by way of French, Spanish/Italian which derived their word from the Persian shakar. Sugar is made up of sucrose, lactose and fructose; it primarily comes from sugar cane and sugar beet but also appears in fruit, honey, maple, etc.
